Beaver Creek Property Owners’ Association
Winter Newsletter – November 30, 2015

Dear Members of the BCPOA:

After another glorious Rocky Mountain summer, the golden leaves are gone, and winter is here!  There has been an abundance of early snow!  Vail Mountain opened with almost 1200 acres of ski terrain, and Beaver Creek opened as usual the day before Thanksgiving with a record amount of opening terrain.  Hopefully, this is just the beginning of a great ski season for Beaver Creek, and as always, there’s a lot going on in our community.

The BCPOA will hold its Annual Meeting on Monday, December 28.

You are invited to attend the BCPOA annual meeting in the Park Hyatt, Gore Range Room from 3:30 to 5:00 PM followed by a cocktail reception and plenty of appetizers.  This is a great chance to get caught up with issues in our community, interact with community leaders, re-connect with old friends, and meet new ones.  Please put it on your calendar.  We would love to see you there!

The BCPOA has once again partnered with the Vilar to co-sponsor this season’s Broadway Series.

We hope that all of our members can enjoy at least one of the three new Broadway Series performances this winter season:  “The Million Dollar Quartet” on January 22nd, “The Producers” on February 24th, and “A Night with Janis Joplin” on March 9th.  Prior to each performance, the BCPOA and the Vilar will co-host a complimentary cocktail party in the May Gallery.  If you haven’t made one of these events the last few years, you should get to one this year.  A good time will be had by all!  Further information will be sent out each month starting in December, but tickets are on sale now!

Ballot Issue 5A passed!

Hopefully, you saw the special announcement we sent out earlier this month regarding the election victory for Ballot Issue 5A.  After many hours spent reviewing the Metro District’s financial reports and financial projections, and many hours of negotiations with the Metro District Board, our Board unanimously supported Ballot Issue 5A which will provide critical additional funds to retain an appropriate level of Metro District services, and for properly maintaining our aging infrastructure to “Keep Beaver Creek World Class!”  Importantly, this mill levy increase will sunset in six years, and then the community will have another opportunity to evaluate the Metro District’s financial needs.  We were very pleased with the community support we received in order to pass this important ballot issue.

The Metro District has key projects underway.

The road to the new firehouse has been completed, and the structure has been fully framed out.  You can get a good look at it as you cruise down Dally or take the cat to Beano’s.  We understand that the new firehouse is on target for completion next May.  Key infrastructure projects such as replacing broken sidewalks and curbs were started this fall and will be completed next year.  In addition, more work has been done to replace the old guard rails throughout the community.  This project will also be completed next year, which will include adding stone pillars wherever the guardrails have metal supports.

There are some unionizing activities among Beaver Creek’s ski instructors.

You may have read about some recent unionizing activities among Beaver Creek ski instructors.  There is not really a lot to report on at this time, but we have posted a letter here from Doug Lovell, COO of Beaver Creek Resort, addressing this issue.  You may also be interested in a Wall Street Journal article Doug references in his letter.  If so, you can just Google “New Ways to Ski First Class.”

We have a new Director!

We are pleased to announce that Blaine Nelson has recently joined our Board.  Blaine is a retired Deloitte partner from Dallas.  Our Board tries to have diversity among our Directors; experiential, gender, and geographic within Beaver Creek.  If you are interested in serving, or would like to recommend someone else to serve, please contact any of our Directors with a recommendation, and they will forward that information along to our Nominating Committee.

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season, and a terrific winter in Beaver Creek!

Very best regards,
